The United States disliked communism since it allowed those who didn't work as hard to enjoy the nations profits. The Soviets preferred communism way more than capitalism since they envisioned a future where they would be equality socially and financially. An important aspect of the Cold was the Cuba Missile Crisis where an American plane caught images of Cuba having missiles in their country which were being supplied by the Soviets. This frightened Americans because if Cuba were to shoot those missiles at USA, then millions of lives would have been taken. In order to prevent this from happening, President John F. Kennedy wrote a letter to the Soviet leader asking him to either remove the missiles or prepare to get attacked. Soviet leader, Khrushchev, agreed to remove their nuclear missiles from Cuba if U.S removed them from Turkey. This was the closest the world came to a nuclear war. The war had to do with a lot of competition between U.S.S.R and America whether it was an arms race or even a space race. In the space race, although Russia was the first country to send out a machine called Sputnik into space, American's won the race when Neal Armstrong became the first man to land on the moon. The city of Berlin was one of the main places the Cold War effected. In 1961, the Soviets constructed a type of war cutting off West Germany's access to East Germany. This decision was made since the Soviets decided to establish communism in East Germany while the other areas practiced capitalism. The walls had barbed wire and guards with machine guns which meant that the people were not in support of the walls. There were many attempts to cross the wall onto the West side and in these attempts, hundreds died while thousands lived. T One thing I don't understand is how Korea had to do with the Cold War. Korea was a country that supported communism and so did Russia, so that's one way they were able to connect, but how did they contribute to the war? Did they provoke Russia or the U.S to keep the war going or did they do something that decreased the heat of the war?
